Masterplan - Destination Uses
The Kings masterplan provides a clear framework for future development and the opportunity for innovative architecture at specified locations.
It places the 'landmark' destination uses - the arena, convention centre, car park, piazza and hotel - at the northern (Albert Dock) end of the site, with the residential/mixed use component towards the south.
The arena and convention centre complex has been designed by award winning architects Wilkinson Eyre. The location on the waterfront and their distinctive curved roofs will have a major impact on the city's skyline.
The buildings are arranged to minimise vehicular access across the site, with servicing below ground. The adjoining piazza provides an impressive setting and space where outdoor events catering for larger audiences can be accommodated.
